Coming SoonJoin us for the historic debut of the San Gabriel Valley Symphony—a professional orchestra founded to reflect and serve the people of the San Gabriel Valley, with a mission rooted in community engagement, representation, and social impact. This inaugural concert is both a celebration of artistic possibility and a solemn memorial for the lives lost in the 2023 Lunar New Year mass shooting.
The program features the world premiere of Aidan Vass’s Elegy for Monterey Park, a powerful tribute to the community’s resilience and spirit, and the world premiere of Cameron Moody’s San Gabriel Valley Overture, a vibrant fanfare for a region stepping into its own as a cultural epicenter. Also on the program is the U.S. premiere of Esin Aydingoz’s Wondrous Journeys—a sweeping, cinematic work of wonder and discovery and a special encore by David Hernandez.
Conducted by Co-Founder and Artistic Director Alex Deng and Music Director Henry Shin, this evening marks the beginning of a bold new chapter for the SGV as a home for world-class performances and socially conscious programming.
The SGV Symphony is a special initiative under Arts Bridging the Gap, dedicated to the San Gabriel Valley and its communities. This concert is especially dedicated to Mark Trulson and David Batti, beloved and tireless music educators who shaped generations of students in the Alhambra Unified School District and beyond.
Made possible by: the City of Monterey Park, the Monterey Park Healing Fund, and the Alhambra High School Music Department.
Located just minutes from City Hall in Monterey Park, Barnes Park Amphitheatre sits along S. Ramona Avenue and serves as a central hub for community arts and cultural events.
