The SGV Symphony returns to the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse on Thursday, April 16 at 7:00 PM for a special benefit concert celebrating our inaugural season, the students and artists who helped shape it, and the community that made it all possible.
This concert also marks our final performance under Arts Bridging the Gap, the organization whose support made this orchestra possible. This concert is generously underwritten by Chris Kuo of Two Piano Journey and each donation will be matched.
Doors open at 6:00 PM, and merchandise will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
This special program brings together returning guest artists, student performers, and a collaborative artistic team for an evening that reflects the spirit of SGV Symphony’s first season.

David Hernandez: Malagueña de Esperanza — dedicated to Arts Bridging the Gap
Joe Hisaishi: One Summer’s Day from Spirited Away
Francis Poulenc: Concerto for Two Pianos
Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1
We are honored to welcome violinist Eric Cheng and pianists Michelle Chen Kuo and Christopher Kuo as guest artists, alongside talented student performers from our community.
The evening’s conductors include:
Alex Deng, Artistic Director — Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1
Raphaela Lacerda, Guest Conductor — Moody’s San Gabriel Valley Overture, Hisaishi’s One Summer’s Day, and Hernandez’s Malagueña de Esperanza
Henry Shin, Music Director — Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Charoensri’s Rising Light
More than a return to the stage, this concert is a celebration of the artists, students, supporters, and community members who have helped bring SGV Symphony to life. We look forward to sharing this special evening with you.
Located in the heart of San Gabriel's historic Mission District, the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse is a beautifully preserved Spanish-style theater that has been a cornerstone of the community since 1927.

Adjacent Lot: The parking lot next to the Playhouse offers 178 spaces. Parking is free on non-event days and costs $15 during performances .
Additional Options: Free parking is available at the Park & Ride lot located at 257 S. Mission Dr., just half a block west of the Playhouse, as well as on nearby streets
To ensure a smooth experience, it's advisable to arrive at least 60 minutes before your event. This allows ample time for parking, locating your seat, and exploring the historic venue. Latecomers will be seated during an appropriate pause in the performance, at the discretion of the house staff.
