Sophia Shih (she/her) is a classical violinist, music educator, and aspiring nurse based in Southern California. She received dual degrees in Violin Performance, B.M. and Physiological Science, B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Sophia has been playing the violin since age 6, studying with well-distinguished violinists Ming-Shui Yo, David Chernyavsky, Ji Young An, Varty Manouelian, and Movses Pogossian. Through working with youth orchestras, summer music programs, and local after-school elementary orchestras in her hometown, she discovered a passion in teaching children the welcoming and healing nature of music. She has been actively teaching since 2020, passing her love of music to students of all ages in an engaging and compassionate manner. As a performer, she has toured internationally with orchestras and raised thousands of dollars for charities. Besides studying solo repertoire, Sophia enjoys playing in a variety of ensembles from chamber groups to pit orchestras and full symphonies.
