Arts Bridging the Gap (ABG) uplifts the voices, experiences, and self-expression of youth and residents from underserved communities through healing arts programs. Through our work, participants develop interpersonal skills and growth mindsets that enable them to be their best selves in our community.
Since its founding in 2014, ABG has administered over 2,000 programs for tens of thousands of young people living at or below the poverty line and spearheaded the creation of over 120 youth-designed and community-created murals in Los Angeles County. Having worked consistently with over 5,000 young people in Los Angeles annually, as well as 45 sites and program partners, our artistic disciplines include visual, performing, rhythmic, musical, gardening, culinary, poetic, textile, cinematic, and digital arts.
As a social-justice-focused artistic entity, ABG champions inclusion across all programming. We welcome individuals of all physical, emotional, psychological, and learning abilities, including systems-impacted people. Our trauma-informed process begins by listening and engaging community members to understand their emotional, cultural, and social landscape. Through a sequence of community sessions, we engage in storytelling circles, hands-on workshops, collaborative design feedback, and skill-sharing activities. Participants explore identity, share stories, and collaborate on programs and projects that reflect their lived experiences, resilience, and vision for the future.
The San Gabriel Valley Symphony is a professional orchestra created by working musicians and local leaders to reflect and serve the San Gabriel Valley—focusing on community engagement and social impact. Our mission is to show the next generation in the SGV that a career in the arts is not only possible, but capable of creating real change in their communities and beyond.
