Samuel Tung is a Canadian-American trumpet player currently studying at the University of Southern California.
Though he is classically-trained, his passion for music eventually led to him performing in various genres, including concert band, orchestra, big band jazz, marching band, pit orchestra, and even pop music. This is reflected in the varied ensembles he partook in. In USC, this includes the USC Student Symphony Orchestra, the PACN (Phillipine-American Cultural Night) Pit Orchestra, and the USC Trojan Marching Band. With the latter, he had the chance to perform with Japanese girl group Atarashii Gakko! during their 2024 North American tour stop in Los Angeles. Outside of USC, Samuel was a member of the 2024 Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra (now Jack Long Honour Band), a five-time participant in the Western International Band Clinic (WIBC; 2017-2022), and a former member of the Vancouver, Canada-based Hudson Street Jazz Orchestra (2019-2020).
Samuel believes in the power of music to inspire, to provoke, and to bring people together. Just as music has brought joy and fulfilment to his life, Samuel hopes his passion for music would do the same to others. This is why he continues his musical journey with the San Gabriel Valley Symphony.
While not playing trumpet, Samuel can be found cafe-hopping around Los Angeles, collecting vinyl records, and finishing up his Bachelor of Architecture degree.
The San Gabriel Valley Symphony is a professional orchestra created by working musicians and local leaders to reflect and serve the San Gabriel Valley—focusing on community engagement and social impact.
