Phoebe Wu is a rising junior at UC Berkeley, majoring in Economics with minors in Music, Data Science, and Food Systems. She has studied violin with Professor Tingyu Wu since 2018 and currently studies under Professor Antoine Van Dongen. Phoebe is a first violinist in the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and previously served as Assistant Concertmaster in the UC Berkeley Philharmonia Orchestra. In November 2023, she was selected as a soloist for the Butterfly Lovers’ Concerto after competing in UC Berkeley’s Annual Concerto Competition.
Phoebe’s orchestral journey began at age nine, performing as a section leader and soloist with the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Ensemble at various national and international venues. She was a soloist competition winner with the ensemble, and earned 1st-runner-up in the junior division at the Hong Kong International Music Festival Competition. Phoebe has performed charity recitals in Taipei, with proceeds benefiting the Angel’s Heart Family Social Welfare Foundation. In 2021, she participated in a Youth Musicianship Development Program with the National Symphony Orchestra and Ray Chen, sharing classical music with children from indigenous communities around Taiwan.
In 2022, Phoebe was accepted to several prestigious music schools with a Dean of Music Scholarship, including Eastman, Peabody, and New England Conservatory. In 2024, she was invited to attend the California Orchestra Institute as concertmaster, performing in Zipper Hall at the Colburn School.

Our mission is to show the next generation in the SGV that a career in the arts is not only possible, but capable of creating real change in their communities and beyond.
