Jean Smith is a doctoral student of Julie Landsman at the University of SouthernCalifornia’s Thornton School of Music studying horn performance. Along with being an activefreelance musician, playing with groups like Opera Santa Barbara and Vicente ChamberOrchestra, she is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Los Angeles and the California YoungArtists Symphony. She has been a fellow at Hidden Valley’s Festival of the Winds and theBowdoin International Music Festival, and has attended the Eastern Music Festival and CurtisYoung Artist Program. Prior teachers include Ellen Dinwiddie Smith and Frøydis Ree Wekre.Outside of playing the horn, Jean enjoys spending her time cooking, crocheting, and hiking.
