Liz Ornelas is a tubist, and educator with a passion for building community through music. In 2026, she was appointed Music Director Designate of the San Gabriel Valley Winds with its inaugural concert slated for Fall 2026. A dedicated performer, she has played with a variety of ensembles across the Los Angeles area, including chamber groups, orchestras, and wind bands. Liz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Azusa Pacific University, where she developed her skills as a tubist, conductor, and brass educator. She has worked extensively as a brass coach with high school programs and maintains a private studio of tuba, trombone, and euphonium students.
Currently, Liz is pursuing her Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. She brings a thoughtful and purposeful approach to the podium and is especially drawn to the intersections of conducting, education, and arts leadership. Whether in rehearsal or in performance, Liz is committed to using music as a tool for connection, growth, and service. She looks forward to a career that may include roles as a music director, military band conductor, or leader in music education and outreach.
