Michael Medina is the Principal Trombone of the San Gabriel Valley Symphony. A proud SGV native and Alhambra High School (Class of 2018) alum, he earned degrees in Trombone Performance and Music Education from the University of Redlands (’24), as well as a Master’s in Learning and Teaching.
Michael also serves as Principal Trombone for the LLS Orchestra and the Alwani Middle Eastern Orchestra, with performances at venues including Zipper Hall and BroadStage. He is the Co-Founder and trombonist of OFFTHEAIR, a Southern California-based funk/pop band.
In addition to performing, Michael is a dedicated educator who teaches privately and actively freelances. He is passionate about expanding youth access to the arts through both education and performance.

The San Gabriel Valley Symphony is a professional orchestra created by working musicians and local leaders to reflect and serve the San Gabriel Valley—focusing on community engagement and social impact. Our mission is to show the next generation in the SGV that a career in the arts is not only possible, but capable of creating real change in their communities and beyond.
