Isabella Vita Mier is a distinguished Italian-Mexican American violist from Los Angeles, California. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studies under the mentorship of esteemed violinist and pedagogue Isaac Malkin. Mier began her viola studies at the age of eight and continued her training at the Renaissance Arts Academy with Alec Santa Maria. Her pre-collegiate education included studies at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), the Colburn School, and the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, where she studied with renowned violist Andrew Picken. At age 15, she made her solo debut with the LACHSA String Ensemble under violist and conductor Fung Ho,marking the beginning of her journey as a solo performer.
Throughout her formative years, Mier has been an active performer in chamber ensembles andsymphony orchestras, frequently serving in principal and leadership roles. In 2021, she was appointed Principal Violist of the Eisner Intergenerational Orchestra in Downtown Los Angeles. She currently serves as Principal Violist of the newly established San Gabriel Valley Symphony. As a CODA Fellow of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Mier is mentored by LA Phil musicians Minor Wetzel and Meredith Snow. She has performed under the batons of esteemed conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Fung Ho, Maxim Eshkenazy, Alan Mautner, James Mena, Stefano Vignati, Daniel Suk, and James Colon. Mier’s performance career includes collaborations with distinguished ensembles such as the LA Opera, Charlotte Symphony, International Lyric Orchestra (Vicenza, Italy), and Dream Orchestra, as well as performances for the Los Angeles Board of Directors.
She has received recognition from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Music Center, and was awarded second prize at both the Royal Maas Competition and the Claveria Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Passionate about arts education and access, she has worked with nonprofits including AFA, LTM, and Alexandria House, offering performances and music instruction as a violist, conductor, and educator. She is also the founder of Chamber for Children, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing chamber music to young and underserved audiences. In the summer of 2024, she made her solo and chamber music debut in Reykjavík, Iceland, at the Harpa International Music Academy (HIMA). In summer 2025, she will study with world-renowned violist Nobuko Imai, who will guide her as she makes her European debut in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Isabella is slated to make her Carnegie Hall debut in late fall of 2025, a major milestone in her emerging solo career as a young artist.
