
Isaac Io Schankler is an accordionist and composer whose work bridges classical and folk traditions with contemporary experimentalism. As a classical and new music accordionist, Schankler has appeared as a featured performer with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony and The Industry’s productions of contemporary operas Galileo and Hopscotch. As a performer of klezmer and Eastern European folk music, they have performed with bands and ensembles like Mostly Kosher, The Shpil, and Nevenka Folk Ensemble.
In addition to performance, Schankler is a prolific composer whose music has been described as “powerful” (Sequenza21), “delightful” (I Care If You Listen), and “masterfully composed” (Boston Musical Intelligencer). They are currently the artistic director of the concert series People Inside Electronics, and Associate Professor of Music at Cal Poly Pomona.
