Alexandra Miller, an active performer and teacher, holds the positions of Principal Flute of the San Gabriel Valley Symphony, 3rd Flute/Piccolo of the Redlands Symphony, 2nd Flute/Piccolo of the Marin Symphony and Second Flute with the California Symphony. She has performed and recorded with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, including their November 2019 World Tour to Mexico City, London, Boston and New York with featured artists Yuja Wang and Herbie Hancock. She has also performed with the New World Symphony, Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, Long Beach Opera, Berkeley Symphony, Desert Symphony, Dream Orchestra, Orchestra Santa Monica, Riverside Philharmonic, and San Bernadino Symphony. Previously held positions include 2nd Flute/Piccolo of the Stockton Symphony and Principal Flute of the American Youth Symphony. Additionally, she has performed under the baton of James Conlon, Gustavo Dudamel, Zubin Mehta, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Alan Silvestri, Carl St. Clair, Michael Tilson-Thomas, and John Williams.
As an active performer in the Los Angeles recording scene, Mrs. Miller can be heard on "Hocus Pocus 2" recorded at Fox Studios, Obamas' Netflix documentary "American Factory", documentary "Women in Blue", and the Bollywood film "Sairat" recorded at Sony Pictures Studios.
Special honors include the 1st prize in the woodwinds division of the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition and the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Tomorrow’s Stars Competition. Additionally, she performed at the National Flute Association’s Annual Convention as a winner of the Masterclass Performers Competition and placed as a prize-winning finalist in both the Myrna Brown Competition in Texas and the San Diego Flute Guild's Artist Gold Competition. Mrs. Miller received her MM and BM from the USC Thornton School of Music.
As a flute instructor, Mrs. Miller maintains an active private teaching studio in the San Gabriel Valley. Her students have earned top positions in highly competitive ensembles, including NYO (National Youth Orchestra), SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Groups, CBDA All-State Honor Groups, Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Pasadena Youth Symphony, in addition to college music major admission. Her students have had success in competitions including those from NFA, NPR's "From the Top" national broadcast, San Diego Flute Guild, and SYMF. As an MTAC certified instructor, she helps prepare students for Certificate of Merit testing and has maintained a 100% studio pass rate on the exam since she began teaching the program. She finds no greater reward than sharing her passion for music with others.
