Alan Wang grew up in Princeton Junction, New Jersey, and was began his classical music training at age 5 with piano. At age 9 in public school orchestra, he was introduced to the double bass, which he eventually decided to study in higher education.
Alan began his undergraduate studies in 2014 at Oberlin College & Conservatory where he studied with Tracy Rowell for four years. After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Music in 2018, he continued his studies for graduate degrees at the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music. At USC, Alan studied with David Allen Moore of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for four years and graduated in Spring of 2023 with a Master’s of Music and Graduate Certificate in Double Bass Performance.
Currently, Alan freelances and gigs around the Southern California area. His varying freelance work ranges from orchestral and chamber performances to studio recording sessions. On top of performing, he is also an Adjunct Professor at the Mount San Jacinto Community College. Alan also teaches with Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) at the Torres and the Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) sites.
Apart from playing the bass, Alan is a huge foodie and loves to play with dogs. You might see him around LA trying different types of foods from all over! He might also be sleeping at home, which is also something he is passionate about.
