Alan Wang grew up in Princeton Junction, New Jersey, and began his classical music training at age five with piano. He discovered the double bass at age nine through his public school orchestra and chose to pursue the instrument in higher education.
Alan earned his Bachelor of Music from Oberlin College & Conservatory, where he studied with Tracy Rowell. He continued his studies at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, completing a Master’s of Music and Graduate Certificate in Double Bass Performance under the guidance of David Allen Moore of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Currently, Alan freelances and performs across Southern California, and frequently subs with the New World Symphony in Miami. His diverse freelance work spans orchestral and chamber concerts as well as studio recording sessions. Alan is also dedicated to teaching, working with students of all ages and teaching with the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA) at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA).
Outside of music, Alan is a passionate foodie and dog lover. He enjoys exploring new restaurants throughout LA and never misses an opportunity for a good nap.
