Ivy Kwok serves as the Sustainability Coordinator for the San Gabriel Valley Symphony Orchestra, where she leads initiatives to reduce the orchestra’s environmental footprint and integrate sustainability into its public programming. A Ph.D. candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UCLA, Ivy specializes in the biodegradation of groundwater contaminants and has published work in Biotechnology Advances and the Journal of Hazardous Materials Letters. Her interdisciplinary background in molecular biology and environmental engineering informs her approach to sustainable arts leadership.
At SGVSO, Ivy brings her expertise in climate justice and systems thinking to help the orchestra model new standards for environmentally responsible cultural institutions. Beyond her role at SGVSO, she is a UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award recipient, former President of the UCLA Graduate Society of Women Engineers, and organizer of community initiatives like “Dance Cardio Without the Car,” blending wellness, public transit, and environmental awareness. Ivy is committed to making the arts not only accessible and inclusive, but sustainable for generations to come.
