Sierra Schmeltzer is a professional flutist and dedicated educator based in Los Angeles. She currently serves as Principal Flute of the Bozeman Symphony, the Piccolo chair with the Boise Philharmonic, and second flute with the San Gabriel Valley Symphony. In addition to maintaining an active private studio, Sierra enjoys a vibrant freelance career in Southern California, with performances in ensembles such as the San Diego Symphony, Pacific Symphony, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
Sierra earned her Bachelor of Music from the Hartt School of Music in 2017. In 2020, she received her Master of Music degree and Graduate Certificate in 2022 from the University of Southern California. Notable teachers include Jim Walker, Janet Arms, Diana Morgan, Cathy Karoly, and Sandy Norman.
Sierra was awarded First Prize in the 2024 San Diego Young Artist Competition and was a semi-finalist in the 2023 National Flute Association Young Artist Competition.
When she’s not performing or teaching, Sierra enjoys spending time with her two cats, Henri and Thor.
